Wilderness First Aid - 4 Days / Remote First Aid - 2 Days
- Canadian Red Cross Certification in Wilderness or Remote First Aid & CPR C (3-year digital certificate).
- Held just north of Sundre, AB — accommodations in Sundre, Cabins available at Mahikan Trails or free camping at Mahikan Trails.
- Meals are not provided;
Wilderness First Aid (4-Day Course)
- 40 hours over 4 days (or 5 days possible)
- $425.00 + GST
- Designed for those leading groups in wilderness settings
- Covers comprehensive topics from CPR to Illness, Trauma and other emergencies in remote wilderness
Remote First Aid (2-Day Course)
- 20 hours over 2 days (2.5 days possible)
- $325.00 + GST
- Ideal for individuals needing comprehensive first aid training in remote settings
- Includes extended care strategies for up to 24 hours
What to Bring
Equipment List For 20 hour Remote and 40 hour Wilderness First Aid
Essentially you want to pack as though you are doing an extended trip into the backcountry. If you are a guide, you will pack as though you are leading a multi day trip if you are SAR pack as though you are out on a search for an extended period of time. And if you work in any other discipline that has you in a remote location (Trapline, pipeline, environmental work etc) then pack for an extended period of time, what you might normally bring along with you to a jobsite that is remote where you might be out for several days up to a week. This equipment will not be required on day 1, but you bring should bring it along in case.
Please ensure that any outdoor equipment you will be wearing/using is not something you mind getting dirty (possibly really dirty). Be sure to bring along extra gear to keep you warm.
If you can find an old pair of pants that you don’t mind cutting up, please bring those along as well.
In addition to the list below, any other items you wish to bring along to supplement is fine.
Bring:
- pen and paper
- Food/Snacks – You will be responsible for your own meals, though we may have snacks out, and we will have tea, coffee and hot chocolate available in the classroom.
- Water
- Dress comfortably
Equipment List
- Pack (guide pack if you are a guide, otherwise a pack for your specific job)
- Therma Rest
- Sleeping bag (or blanket)
- Spare outdoor gear (lots of it such as hats, gloves etc)
- Extra clothes
- Splinting material (old ski poles or small trees work well for this)
- Tarp
- First Aid kit
- Paracord or climbing tape
- Any survival kit you would normally have
We will be going 10 hours per day (often end a little earlier though if the groups are small).
You will receive your manual on the first day of the class, we are unable to send them to you prior to the course.
